The Easiest Way to Help our Animals!

How many times a day do you search the internet?  5? 10?  20?  What if every time you clicked on “search” you were helping a shelter pet?

We’ve teamed up with SearchKibble to do just that.  SearchKibble is a new search engine designed to help animals in need. It works just like any other search engine: visit searchkibble.com and type your query in the search bar (like “instant pot enchilada recipes,” or “where can I watch reruns of The National Dog Show”, or whatever fragment of words you caught of that song you like that was playing at the grocery store).

Every time you do a search, SearchKibble donates “kibble” (or its cash equivalent) to support Adopt-a-Pet.com’s mission. To say it again…every time you do a search you are helping a homeless pet! The founders, siblings Ken and JJ Ramberg started SearchKibble to ensure that no dog ever goes hungry –and they’ve already raised millions of dollars for animal welfare organizations.

It’s easy to join in and keep the “kibble” flowing.  Here’s how:

 Chrome

  1. Follow this link to install SearchKibble on Chrome.
  2. Click on Add to Chrome and then Add extension.
  3. SearchKibble is successfully installed!

Firefox

  1. Follow this link to install SearchKibble on Firefox.
  2. Click Add to Firefox and then Add.
  3. Click Yes to enable Firefox to change default search engine to SearchKibble.
  4. SearchKibble is successfully installed!

Want to know more?  Here is a quick FAQ:

How does SearchKibble earn money?

Like any other search engine, SearchKibble earns money from the advertisements on search results pages. These ads are clearly marked and are served up by SearchKibble’s search partner Bing. SearchKibble receives a portion of the funds generated by these ads (Bing also receives a portion).

How does this money translate into “Kibble?”

Based on the revenue received, SearchKibble calculated that on average every search earns two pieces of “Kibble,” or about a penny.

How does the “Kibble” get donated?

SearchKibble works with us to put the funds raised to work towards animal welfare and furthering our mission. We will use these funds to improve the way we show pets on our site and help more homeless pets find forever homes, and to better serve the shelters and rescues that display pets on Adopt-a-Pet.com.

How much “Kibble” is donated each quarter?

That depends on how many people use SearchKibble! The more people use it, the more Adopt-a-Pet.com receives!

How do I use SearchKibble?

You can use it as you would any other search engine! Simply go to SearchKibble.com to do a search or, even easier, download the Chrome extension.

Can I keep track of how much kibble I’ve earned through my searches?

You sure can! On the SearchKibble homepage, you’ll see a counter on the top right of the screen. You’ll be able to keep track of how your searches are helping animals in need!

Bring in Spring with a “Circle of Love”

The weather is warming, flowers are blooming, we’re coming out of our winter hibernation and starting to enjoy the great outdoors because Spring is HERE! For pets it’s also the time of year they start dealing with pesky fleas and ticks. We’re not letting that deter us from celebrating the season because we’re helping keep those pests at bay. We are excited to announce we’re collaborating with Seresto® once again for the Circle of Love grant program. For the fourth year in a row, we are awarding a total of $100,000 in Seresto® product grants to help shelters and rescues more easily care for dogs and cats waiting to be adopted –and the granting starts now! Thanks to the generous donation by Seresto®, 20 organizations will receive Seresto® collars for the pets in their care! That gives pets a lot more time to enjoy the weather and find their forever home without stress.

These product grants truly make a huge difference in the lives of rescue pets. See what some of our past recipients have to say about what the grants meant to their organization:

“We are continually grateful for having the lengthy benefits of Seresto® as a part of our complete, compassionate, care for all of the cats and dogs that come through our doors.” – The Cat House on the Kings

” As with all rescues there are always more lives to save than money available, so these [Seresto®] grants are vital to help administer the rescue. These amazing products, besides helping financially, also take a small burden off the foster families by allowing flea and tick protection without monthly administration of medications.” – Dolly’s Legacy Animal Rescue

Adopt-a-Pet.com Issues Emergency Alert about Rise in Pet Thefts

Nation’s top non-profit pet-adoption service calls on pet owners, law enforcement, and tech companies to work together to protect pets

LOS ANGELES, CA – March 2, 2021 – Adopt-a-Pet.com’s, North America’s largest non-profit pet-adoption webservice, today issued a warning for pet owners: increased demand for pets during COVID is creating opportunities for thieves to profit.

Americans are desperate for animal companionship during COVID lockdowns, and at the same time, supply has fallen in many parts of the country. Thieves are taking brazen action to steal dogs, not just from backyards but also from people who are out walking their dogs. And those dogs are then being sold, sometimes on street corners, but sometimes on classified sites.

The media is reeling from recent reports of pop star Lady Gaga’s beloved dogs being the latest celebrity victims of pet thieves, but the non-profit warns this is happening every day to pets from all walks of life. “As reports of violent pet theft rise around the nation, it’s important for pet owners to be vigilant,” says Adopt-a-Pet.com Chief Operating Officer Abbie Moore. “At the same time, we call on online classified sites to up their screening game when accepting posts of pets for sale. Pet owners need powerful allies in this fight to protect their pets.”

As far as preventive measures go, Adopt-a-Pet.com suggests pet owners:

  • Never leave pets unattended in yards or tied up outside stores
  • Be careful posting photos of pets on social media. Thieves are on the lookout for dogs and your social media posts may also gives clues to your location and daily habits
  • Be alert when walking. Pay attention to your surroundings. Thieves prey on people who are distracted by their phones.
  • If you can, pair up with other pet owners in your neighborhood for socially distanced walks.
  • Make sure microchips are registered and have up-to-date contact information associated.
  • Consider taking an online self-defense class.

Finally, Adopt-a-Pet.com has a message for prospective pet buyers. “If you’re buying a pet from a classified ad or from an unknown seller and you suspect this may be a stolen pet, stay in touch with the seller and contact your local law enforcement immediately,” says Moore. “You can also check for lost pet ads that match the pet’s description. You’ll potentially be saving someone a big broken heart.”

Adopt-a-Pet.com Challenges Pet Owners Across America to Document a Pet Guardianship Plan

The non-profit’s #HomeWithRehome Challenge aims to ensure beloved family pets never enter animal shelters

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 16, 2021 /PRNewswire/ — Adopt-a-Pet.com, North America’s largest non-profit pet adoption website, is calling on pet owners across the United States to prepare for the worst-case scenario by making a documented plan for their pet’s care to be enacted in the event they are no longer able to provide care themselves. The #HomeWithRehome Challenge encourages pet parents to get ahead of further unanticipated events, like those many Americans experienced due to Covid-19 and related economic turmoil, by creating a written plan for their pet’s lifetime care.

Adopt-a-Pet.com’s #HomeWithRehome Challenge encourages pet owners to make a documented guardianship plan that includes Rehome, the non-profit’s peer-to-peer pet adoption platform, to ensure the best lifetime care for beloved pets.

“Covid-19 has thrown us all a major curve ball, and for many Americans that has presented an insurmountable change. For some, there have been unexpected financial impacts like the loss of a job or a stable place to call home and, tragically, for others that has meant serious illness and even death,” says Dana Puglisi, Adopt-a-Pet.com’s Chief Marketing Officer. “We’re joining forces with pet lovers across the country to, as a community, do what is within our control now to mitigate potentially devastating outcomes of personal crises for beloved family pets down the road. Our non-profit organization offers pet owners the free tools they need to keep their pets out of shelters, including our ground-breaking Rehome program. With this critical campaign, we’re aiming to get the word out far and wide.”

Adopt-a-Pet.com’s Rehome program is a peer-to-peer pet adoption platform that has already been used by hundreds of thousands of pet owners who are facing the heartbreaking reality that they can no longer care for their pet. Rehome provides pet owners with an easy-to-use adoption program complete with adoption applications, guidance on screening and selecting adopters, and access to millions of pet adopters to potentially match with their pet. The #HomeWithRehome Challenge aims to spread further awareness of the innovative and life-saving technology and encourage pet owners to make it a part of a larger documented guardianship plan for their pets to be enacted in the event tragedy strikes.
