Solidarity with Ukraine Animal Organizations

When crisis hits, our animal welfare community is inspiring. We band together to safeguard the well-being of animals and people helping them with shelter, food, medicine, and care. Sharing how to help Ukraine’s animals with your followers is one way to show how our dedication to helping animals in need knows no borders. It’s as easy as sharing this article or reposting this Instagram from our friends at The Wildest. It’s a list of Ukrainian rescue organizations who we can support as they help of Ukraine’s animals.

Add your Pet List in WordPress + iFrame

This  article describes two options for adding your Adopt-a-Pet.com scrolling Pet List to WordPress and other websites. If you need additional help, please contact our help desk here — we will respond within 1 business day. Thank you!

Option 1. Use this WordPress Plugin created by a fantastic volunteer:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/pet-adoption-listings/

Option 2. Use an iFrame: If you have an iFrame plugin in your WordPress theme, or can use an iFrame on your website, you can use this option. (Many free themes on WordPress.ORG do not allow iFrames.)

  1. First, find your Adopt-a-Pet.com shelter account unique ID number.
It’s easily visible on your Pet List Links page:
    http://www.adoptapet.com/cgi-bin/shelter/index.cgi/listing_links
Look for the number in the links. For example, in
    http://www.AdoptaPet.com/shelter1234-pets.html <– 1234 is the ID number.
    .
  2. Go to the WordPress page where you want to add your Pet List.
Click the little “world” icon that is for inserting an iFrame.
(We put a green arrow pointing to it in the screenshot below.)

3.  A little box will pop up, like this:

4. In the box below, highlight the the entire URL, copy, then then paste into your WordPress little box’s URL field.

In the code you copied in the box, very carefully type over to replace the sample number 1234 with your unique ID number. This can be tricky! You may need to click somewhere else in the URL then use your arrow keys to move the cursor to the shelter_id number. Be careful… don’t type over anything other than the numbers, like the equals sign = before or the & after the number in the code.

5. Make sure “Enable scrollbars” is checked.

6. Set the width and height to fit your page.

7. Click OK and publish or save your page.

Tip: We’ve heard in WordPress it doesn’t always display in “preview” so you may want to publish it on a test page first.

You’re all done!

Grant Submission Photo Tips & Tricks

Tips & Tricks

1. Encourage your pets to look right into the camera to show off their eyes and personality

    •  Try holding a treat or toy next to your camera to get their attention

2. Pets photograph best in bright, natural light

    •  If taking a photo indoors, try putting your pet by a window or turn on a few extra lights (even during the day!)

3. Portraits of pets sitting, standing, or lying down are usually the easiest and most successful photos

    •  “Action shots” are often blurry and take a lot of extra time to get “just right”

4. Share photos just as they come out of your camera or phone

    •  Editing photos, changing sizes, or creating collages limits how they can be used on different social media sites

CLOSED Apply For a Pet Pantry Grant

APPLICATIONS CLOSED MARCH 13, 2021

COVID-19 is affecting communities across the country. People are struggling to provide the essentials for their pets (food, medication, kitty litter, grooming supplies, etc.), but we know that does not mean they love their pets any less. Pet pantries have become a vital lifeline for many pet owners and help organizations like yours reduce the population of animals in shelters by assisting pet owners before they resort to giving up their companion animals. That’s why we’ve been raising money to help you in your efforts to save animals during this critical time.

At the end of 2020 we got together with our friends at Purina, Chewy, and Tito’s Handmade Vodka to raise money so we could help animal welfare organizations do even more great work. Our generous supporters donated so that we could provide you with grants to enrich or start a pet pantry program. The folks at Purina, Chewy, and Tito’s were kind enough to match the donations received up to $10,000 each.

Now we want to extend those funds to you, so you can help the pets in your community. We will provide cash, product, and gift card grants to organizations that apply through the application link below.

Thank you to our compassionate friends at Purina, Chewy, and Tito’s Handmade Vodka for their part in making this grant possible!

Please read the rules and application dates carefully:

Grant Process

Animal Welfare Organizations will have two weeks to complete their initial grant application. Once the application period closes Adopt-a-Pet.com and sponsors will review all eligible applications and choose a small pool of finalists.

All finalists will receive a cash grant (amount will be disclosed to finalists) to enrich or start a pet pantry for their organization. Adopt-a-Pet.com will contact all finalists with the amount they will receive and with a request for additional information. We may request images and/or have follow-up questions. Finalists who send in the requested info will be eligible for a larger grant worth $20,000. Two organizations will receive the larger $20,000 grant that will consist of product, gift cards, and additional monetary funds.

2021 RULES

  • Do not email attached files like Word, PDF, PowerPoint files – they will not be opened. Photo attachments – such as JPG, GIF, or PNG photos – are allowed.
  • Only one application email per active Adopt-a-Pet.com shelter/rescue organization will be accepted in 2021.
  • The application period will begin on Feb. 26, 2021 and end on March 13, 2021. Submissions received after the March 13th deadline will not be considered

Adopt-a-Pet.com "Seresto® Circle of Love" Grants 2021

One of the best parts of what we do is being able to help shelters and rescues provide for the animals in their care. For the third year in a row, Adopt-a-Pet.com will be giving away $100,000 in Seresto® product grants. Seresto® collars can help keep dogs and cats protected from fleas and ticks for 8 continuous months. These grants are for shelters and rescues caring for cats or dogs while they are waiting to be adopted. Thank you to our compassionate friends at Seresto® for their part in making these grants possible!
