Long distance love… get ready for today’s Happy Beginnings story! Nothing makes us want to take a road trip like a story of how Adopt-a-Pet.com helped a homeless pet find a new loving home from far away. We’d love to hear how Adopt-a-Pet.com helped you adopt your pet too! Please send your Happy Beginnings story to info@cms.adoptapet.com with a photo or two.)  This week’s story is from Robin in Pennsylvania. Robin writes…

We found Polly (now Pollyanna) on Adopt-a-Pet.com last summer. We live in PA and she was in Kentucky. I couldn’t stop thinking about her and did the application. We were approved and she was transported to MD were we picked her up. The rescue organization kept in touch for the two weeks before we got her. She is now a member of the family and we love her so much!

Happy Beginning: Todd

Todd-happy-adoption“Thank you to your wonderful search site, we’ve found our little boy, Todd! Todd is everything we wanted and more! He’s very sweet and funny and so well behaved. We feel so fortunate to have him in our life! We had our previous dog, Tasha, for 16 years and when she passed we felt her loss. We were told his original owner was homeless, and Todd was getting chewed on by the bigger dogs. He loved him so much, he surrendered Todd, his 3-year-old best friend, to Brightside Animal Center in Redmond OR to have a better home. Thank you again for helping these sweet innocent animals find new forever homes! Thank you again for all you do! – Kim & Curt.” We love hearing stories about how Adopt-a-Pet.com helped a loving family adopt a homeless pet like Todd. We’d love to hear your Happy Beginnings story too! Send your pet adoption story to info@cms.adoptapet.com with a photo or two, and tell us how Adopt-a-Pet.com helped you with your adoption. Thank you for adopting a pet and saving a life!

Happy Beginnings: Elvis

Elvis-dogPut on “Love Me Tender” and get ready for today’s Happy Beginnings story! Nothing makes us swoon like a  story of how Adopt-a-Pet.com helped a homeless pet find a new loving home. (We’d love to hear yours too, and would be happy to consider it for a future blog post too! Send your Happy Beginnings story to info@cms.adoptapet.com with a photo or two.)  This week’s story is from Rebecca in North Carolina.

Rebecca writes…

Yes, I found Elvis on Adopt-a-Pet.  He was at the Waynesville Animal Shelter in Haywood County, NC.  He was thin and matted and stunk, but when I saw him I knew he had potential.  I had recently lost my Mother, my Husband and my Mother’s dog that I had cared for while she was so ill.  After a period of time I felt ready for a new companion.  The shelter worker said that Elvis had been found with a frayed collar and tag on the said “Elvis”, so that has stayed his name.  He weighed seven pounds on his first vet visit, he’s gained more now that he has settled in for almost a year now. I’m including a photo of Elvis.

Thanks,
Rebecca

Happy Beginnings: Sadie

Here’s a story to brighten up your day! (You can email us yours at info@cms.adoptapet.com.) We just love hearing from happy adopters who have used Adopt-a-Pet.com to find their new furry friend, and here’s a great one that we received via email with some wonderful photos, from Pam: “Thank you for all your efforts in helping locate and English Bulldog. You connected me to Smash Face Rescue where I adopted a lovely English Bulldog. I not longer need your services. If not for you I would not be a bulldog momma now. Please remove me from your data base. He is a picture of Sadie. I have been on many sites for about a year and a half or more. Finally I saw Sadie and fell in love. I went to Smash Face Rescue in Van Nuys and they let me take her home. I have been to a vet because she has skin problems. I got an easy lead harness as recommended by the vet and I am crate training this adult dog to be housebroken. I am really lucky. I waited so long. Now tomorrow I go into the hospital for a total hip replacement and my boyfriend promised to keep up the training. My roommate Robin will babysit Sadie and Elvis, the Pug who belongs to my boyfriend. Oh yes and Daphney the Siamese cat. We are one happy family and I am so pleased I got my wish. Here’s hoping that the housebreaking won’t take too long. I have had English Bulldogs and have done the crate training method on my last puppy. I don’t see why it would be any different for an adult dog. Sadie gets lots of attention and we love her. Here are a few pictures. Sorry I haven’t had time to pose for one with her. Too much prep for the surgery. Sincerely, Pam”

Happy Beginnings: Lucy

Nothing puts big smiles on our faces like hearing from happy adopters who have used Adopt-a-Pet.com to find their new furry friend! (You can email us yours at info@cms.adoptapet.com.) Here’s an email we received with a great photo from Sandy: “Dear Adopt-a-Pet.com, Thanks to your organization, I have found a wonderful little female to adopt.  I have had her two weeks and am in love. I signed up with Adoptapet.com quite a few months ago.  I was looking for a younger female shih-tzu as my male was 11 years old and was getting anxious when it stormed or when I left him alone.  I was hoping for a companion for him and a pet for me to have for a long time. Each female that I received notice on had been rescued from a breeding facility and I was afraid housebreaking would be an issue as I have another dog.  Three weeks ago I got a notice with a picture of a beautiful little face and a story that touched my heart.  It seems Lucy was found as a stray wet and dirty in Bowling Green Kentucky.  An emergency call was placed the the shelter picked her up. She was born with a deformed left front leg that has two feet on it.   It was a kill shelter and Buffalo Pugs and small breeds found out about her and arranged for the shelter to immunize, micro chip and send her to Rochester, New York.  From there Lucy went to a foster home in Jamestown after a caravan of cars moved her from Rochester.  I applied to adopt her and when accepted she came for a “home” visit with me and my male Shih-tzu,  It was love at first sight for me and her.  My male dog was a little shy, but has warmed quickly.  They go out and do their business together and, for the most part, get along well.  Lucy still acts like a puppy and there are times when I take her out for a run (she does it very well) to give my older dog a break from the action.  Everyone that has met her has fallen in love.  I feel so fortunate that I found her and have a life long love in this sweet little lady.”

Happy Beginnings: Gizmo!

We love hearing from happy adopters who have used Adopt-a-Pet.com to find their new furry friend! Here’s an email we received with a great photo from Susan: “Hi Adopt-a-Pet.com, I just want to thank you for bringing Gizmo into my life. I really am not sure who rescued whom? I saw Gizmo on your site last November and kept going back to his picture (I wasn’t sure I really wanted the responsibility of a dog). After Thanksgiving, I called “Nate’s Place” in Sarasota and asked if Gizmo was still available for adoption. They said yes, so the next week I couldn’t resist. Gizmo was such a charmer, I filled out the papers etc and pop next thing I knew Gizmo had adopted me. He is a wonderful companion and has become the neighborhood social butterfly. He loves everyone and all the pets too!  He even gets along with my daughter’s two cats.  Such a sweetie! (Photo: It is obvious that Gizmo owns the house and allows me to live here with him!) Truly, if I had not seen Gizmo on your site I would never have found him. Thanks, Susan”

Happy Beginnings: Snickers

We love hearing from happy adopters who have used Adopt-a-Pet.com to find their new furry friend! Here’s an email we received with a great photo from Susan, who found her dog thanks to the Adopt-a-Pet.com Search Saver email alerts! “I just had to write to let you know that I have found my new best friend, Snickers (pic to the left). I was able to find her with the help of your website. A couple of months ago, I put in a “saved search” with general specifics and received an email every day with possible matches. (My heart goes out to all the wonderful animals searching for a new home.) Once I saw the picture of Snickers, I knew she was the girl for me. I went thru the adoption process with Fassa Friends and on Saturday, brought Snickers to my home. She is great! The reason for this mail is to let you know that if it wasn’t for your website, I wouldn’t have found Snickers and we may never have met. So thank you for the wonderful work you do… it works! Sincerely, Susan”

Happy Beginnings: Chance

We love hearing from happy adopters who have used Adopt-a-Pet.com to find their new furry friend! Here’s an email we received with some great photos from John in Connecticut, who found his new dog Chance thanks to an Adopt-a-Pet.com Search Saver email that brought his listing right into his email inbox. John writes: “After being without a dog of the first time in may years, we decided to go the dog rescue route.  Having had big dogs over the past 43 years, we were looking for a Great Dane rescue.  Well, you sent us a picture of “Chance” a Great Dane Husky puppy mix, just transferred to the Connecticut’s Newington Humane Society.  So we immediately hoped in the SUV ( a must for big dog owners) and drove to Newington to see Chance in person.  Because he was abandoned and rescued, he was shy about being around us.  However, with a few hand full of goodies and a long walk with him, he decided that we were OK.  Of course, we knew from the moment we saw him that he was going to have a good home with us.  We signed all the paperwork and Chance took that ride home with us.  Being a seven month old puppy and never having been around a cat, his introduction to Patches, our cat who was used to being around dogs, was interesting to say the least.

Chance now has a house full of toys to play with, a cat who is teaching him proper cat-dog etiquette , and a loving environment. Our two sons who visit are his favorite playmates!

Without the pet rescue/adoption system, Chance would never had a chance.  Thank you.

Happy Beginnings: Foxy

Dear Adopt-a-Pet.com, I used your listings and finally found and adopted a Miniature Schnauzer, at the Western Arizona Humane Society shelter in Kingman, Arizona, listed through your service. Roxy is the sweetest girl and I was lucky to find her. WAHS was very nice to deal with and the animals are taken care of with love. Foxy now has a great home and she is just a doll! I can’t believe someone would turn her and her brother into a shelter, I just couldn’t do that.

I took a drive from Las Vegas to Kingman, about a two-hour drive and had already put a two-day hold on her as didn’t know when I could get there. When I got there I played with her and she seemed very friendly, and hopped right up on my lap.

After getting home Foxy started to relax. However, she is very attached to me already and doesn’t like to be alone or with other people. I am having to leave her with people to get her used to me coming back, as she thinks I’m not coming back and that she’s being left again. NO WAY!!!

Foxy is a great dog and I’m lucky to have found her. Thanks again for your love of animals and dedication.

Very Sincerely,
Tom

Happy Beginnings: Bianca Finds Love

We love sharing the amazing happy stories we receive from adopters who found their new family members on Adopt-a-Pet.com.  Here’s a great one about a very lucky special-needs dog named Bianca, who found her forever family. “Dear Adopt-a-Pet.com, We found our Bianca through Adopt-a-Pet.com just a week ago! She is a wonderful companion and has added tons of fun and kisses to our home since she arrived.  She is deaf but we did not tell her so she has been following simple gestures 🙂 We adore her! I’ve attached a photo of Bianca in her new favorite spot! Thank you for helping us adopt our new family member! – The Watsons.”
